For the elucidation of those who desire to know more about Mai, Maiji, Mai-ist and Mai-ism, it is added and repeated here that Mai is the Universal Mother, the Motherhood conception of God Almighty, easily propitiable by living a life of Love, Service, Devotion and Unconditional Cheerful Self-Surrender, and by the recognition of the spiritual co-equal status of man and woman.
Any idol or image, symbol or emblem, picture or the sacrificial altar or any object, installed anywhere, either in a Church, or a Temple, or a Mosque or Synagogue, and worshiped by any people in any manner and any mode they decide , with any gospel or scriptures they prefer, but base on the conception that it represents Universal God. whether Mother or even Father or Jointly as Mother & Father etc., easily propitiable on living the life on the lines of the above stated tenets, by itself, is Mai or the Universal Mother..
Similarly any preceptor preaching or teaching or propagating or inculcating the doctrine of Universal Religion with Mai, the Universal Mother as its pivot and rallying focus and wedded to the said tenets, is Maiji of that particular group or area or generation or even age.
The followers of the Universal Religion of Mai - ism, with the Universal Mother or Mai as the Universal God, easily propitiable on the living out the oft repeated principles, whether they form individuals or groups, associates or adherents or co-workers or devotees, are all Mai-ists. Mai-ists that have taken their oath of allegiance are U.R.M.s of general or life-long oath.
The doctrine of Universal Religion entwined round Mai the Universal Mother, with its said indispensable cardinal principles of love, service, devotion and unconditional cheerful self-surrender and recognition of the spiritual co-equal status of man and woman, is Mai-ism.
These universal conceptions and interpretations represent the quintessence of the Universal Religion of Mai-ism and it is this, that has been meant to be conveyed whenever the terms MAI, MAIJI, MAI-ISTS and MAI-ISM are used, under the universal religion of Mai-ism.
MOTHER'S MESSAGE
MAI-ISM has its origin in the Motherhood-conception of God Almighty. Mother is the very same God whom the world has worshipped till now, mainly as Father. Mother is sexless, and therefore, beyond He, She or It and is therefore, the very same as Father "MAI" is the Hindi word for "Mother", " Mai-ism " offers to the world, in these trying times, when the world needs highest mercy of Almighty, the conception of the Universal Mother, to be worshipped by one and all, who are universal minded, religious, God-fearing and God-loving.
Mai-ism is the psychological religion for one and all of any religion or no religion without caste, creed or colour. With full reverence to and while following one's own religion, one can be a Mai-ist. Mai-ism is one's own personal religion to be adopted after the age of discretion and not merely one's ancestral religion of one's birth.
Mai ( Mother ) is not Maya or the illusion creator, nor Shakti or Power requiring a separate Controller, not Father's Wife, nor the Fifth Hindu Deity, not Mother Kali, not Mother Mary, not God's handmaid, not Demon's slayer, not Mother that is pleased with animal or human sacrifices,, not Mother of thieves and dacoits, not Mother of rebels revolutionaries, not Mother of Black-Magicians, Ughra-Sadhaks , Ghat-Kanchuki Dev-dasis or Vamachars.
Mother is essentially the Ocean of Infinite Love and Mercy, Mother is human mother vested with Omnipresence, Omniscience and Omnipotence and raised to infinity and Godhood . Mai is to the Mai-ists what a human mother is to her child.
Under Mai-ism, there is no place, by its very postulates, for the condemnation of Harijans as ' Untouchables, Woman's subjugation by Man or condemnation by routine religion as " Narakasya Dwaram "( Hell's Gate ) has no room, as every Mai-ist is expected to look upon every woman ( except his own wife ) as representative form of Mother and as under Mai-ism the co-operation of man and woman in the Mother worship is the highest spiritualising force. The spirit underlying the words " Heathen ", " Kafir ", " Mlechcha " " Durvan ", etc., has no existence under Mai-ism.
If the Universe is to be made hatredless happy home and if love, mercy and other qualities of heart, ( the bankruptcy of which has been so keenly felt in the present world ) are to reappear, Motherhood conception of God is the most favorable aspect and conception.
A universal evil need a universal remedy, and the Grace of Universally acknowledged common Parent of one and all. The Merciful-Mother-Parent. The Universal Mother.
A universal prayer offered to a universally-conceived, universally-acknowledged universal Almighty, has its own undreamt-of miraculous efficiency, which followers of individual delimited vision can never imagine.
A universal call alone can have a universal response.
The six tenets of Mai-ism are :-
1) God is more merciful when approached as Mother;
2) Mother is mother of all, without caste, creed or colour;
3) Mother smiles, on one's trying to love All, to one's best;
4) Mother saves, on one's trying to serve All, with one's best;
5) Mother shows (Her Grace) on one's devotion to Her
6) Mother serves, on one's living the life of universal Love and Service, with Devotion to Her and Unconditional, Cheerful, Self-Surrender to Mother's Divine Will.
One who does not believe in God, but who does believe in the common tie of humanity and practises service and extends Love to all, is a " Mai-ist ", because he is the follower of Mai in one of Her aspects as One Universal Soul, One Universal Consciousness or One Universal Cosmos, like unto the continuous string through rosary beads subjecting everyone of the Universe to the slightest influence anywhere in the whole.
A Mai-ists devotional ideal is :-
" Practice feeling that you are a child. A child whom mother could not but accept, however wicked. You automatically get confidence, you regain your innocence, purity and sincerity and you raise yourself above world-wormness, sexuality and selfishness. You are off your cares. Time is Eternity for you and the burden of life is lightened. Be Mother's child and Her lap shall be thrilling and throbbing to have you on itself."
Note : Mai-ist should always remember that the word ' devotees ' , always means both sisters and brothers, women and men. It is only a great pity that with the traditional convention of centuries, Mai-ism has sometimes to treat the word ' devotees ' as of the masculine gender. To use the expression ' her and him 'or ' her and his ' so often makes the language most clumsy and harsh other.
It cannot be, however, too much emphasised that under Mai-ism, female devotees need not begin to think as men, or compose devotional poems as men and should mentally transform themselves to be men, to be considered eligible for devotion for Mother's Grace. In Mai-ism, man has no superiority over women, either from the point of evolution of the soul or worthiness to get Mother's Grace. Mother's Lodge is an institute of Sisters and Brothers and not that of brothers alone that have been liberal hearted enough to extend admission to sisters. Mai-ism means an equal religious recognition for both sexes.
MARRIAGE UNION IN MOTHER WORSHIP IS THE HIGHEST SPIRITUALISING AND FAMILY HAPPIFYING FORCE.
- MAI SWARUP MAI MARKAND -MARKAND
25 MARCH 1944.
MAI principally means God as Universal Mother, Universal Father, Universal Mother-Father or Universal Father-Mother of one and all human beings, one creatress or creator of all created beings or things, who is most pleased and showers peace, prosperity, health, wealth, joy and happiness on them that have been living the life of universal love and service to God's all children, and of devotion and unconditional cheerful self-surrender to the Divine Will of the Final-most God of any conception that any one accepts.
Mai-ism scripture is simple. It consists of Six words only;1) Mother,2) Love to Mother and Her Children,3) Universality,4) Service,5) Devotion and 6) Self Surrender. The first word "Mother" indirectly and implicitly includes the principle or the word of spiritual co-equal status of man and woman.
Of course practice will take time but at least the scripture is over. In practical life the spirit of spiritual co-equal status of man and woman in addition to the four concepts of love, service, devotion and self surrender are also to be rigidly observed. In every thought, action and desire , keep these six words before you. If the practice is observed with full austerity; your life is crowned with success by Mai's Grace resulting from your devotion to Her. Relief from misery, happiness and finally salvation are easily attained. Even if there is no conviction about God, Maiism has broadest vision and the words of devotion and surrender should be applied to one's master husband, employer, guardian, parents, patrons etc.
Just practice for a year and you will find you are transformed. Practice it at least one day (Mai days being Friday, Saturday, Tuesday and Sunday in order of importance ), or one day in a month say the full moon day, or once in a year, say your birthday or once in your life on your deathbed and mark the miraculous change.
In fact, it is a helpless pitiable misnomer to call Mai-ism a religion, at all, if that word is to be taken to mean what we have understood by the word "religion" since centuries. There is no suitable word to be fully suggestive of what Mai-ism represents.
MAI NIWAS
MAI NIWAS is The Cosmic Center of Mai-ism. Built-in 1949 it remains the Sanctum Sanctorum for Mai-ism. It is situated at the westernmost end of Saraswati Road, Santacruz West, Mumbai- 400054, INDIA. It was here that the Great Saint and the Founder of the Universal Religion of Mai-ism Mai Swarup Mai Markandji endearingly called Maiji the only one and the great Motherly Saint spent about 17 years of His blessed life alone in deep meditation of Mother Mai. It is here that the Most Merciful Mother Mai, the Universal Divine Mother Mai, the Universal Divine Mother resides eternally with Her abiding smile ever ready to run to the succour of Her Devotees. It is here that the countless number of people were relieved of their miseries.
A word about Mai Niwas. At first, it consisted of a prayer hall admeasuring 28 feet X 16 Feet and two rooms besides a kitchen. Later on, one more room was added. At the instance of Maiji-IV, a self-contained two-room flat was constructed on the terrace. Later on, marble flooring was laid instead of the original floor tiles on the entire ground floor. This work has been completed under the supervision of Maiji-V.
Impelled by the sympathy for the suffering fellow- beings Maiji-IV opened a free dispensary at Mai Niwas. It has been functioning smoothly by the grace of Mai-Maiji under the able guidance of an eminent physician.
Most Merciful Mother is installed at the westernmost extremity of the prayer hall, facing the East.
Both Mai and Maiji are worshipped every day and on a large scale on Fridays and Saturdays in Mai Niwas when congregational prayers are invariably held at 7 pm onwards. A bronze statue of Maiji is installed at the Eastern end of the veranda at Mai Niwas under the supervision of the Maiji II with the donations raised by a few close devotees. Maiji is worshipped here also. The veranda is sacred because it is here that the Great Saint used to relax in the night repeating " Mai Markand Ardha Sahasranam "
Maiji was an incarnation of love and mercy. He worked very hard till 21-12-1966 when he returned to the Lotus Feet of Mother Mai. He wrote his Magnum Opus " Mai-ism " in Mai Niwas. Several other books were also produced by him. If the walls of Mai Niwas could articulate they will tell that He had wiped the tears of thousands of misery stricken people and restored their happiness. Never He erred in misery relief. There has been no case of misery stricken person who contacted Maiji returning without relief or disappointed. Mother was at his back and call. He held regular communion with Her. He worked ceaselessly for outspread of the Universal Religion of Mai-ism. He established at the insistent and repeated behest of Mai for the happiness of the people at large. In Mai Niwas, he taught his chosen disciples how to propitiate Most Merciful Mother Mai. He loved His disciples with all His heart. ~ U.R.M. U.G. MENON

NOTE: - Mai-ism was represented at All Faiths' Conference at Nasik ( India ) in 1933 and the Indian Philosophical Congress at Poona ( India ) in 1934. Maiji was invited to Japan for the World Religious Congress in 1955. Maiji was the Sub-Councilor-in-Chief of the International Religious Federation which was started in Japan in 1955.
Maiji had been elected as VICE PRESIDENT and spiritual MINISTER for PEACEFUL
HUMAN RELATIONSHIP & Universal Religious Alliance ( U.R.A. ) in Havana,
Cuba for SIX YEARS FROM 1959 TO 1965.
The most appreciated representation of Mai-ism was at the Universal
Religious Alliance World Congress held at Havana in Cuba from 23 October 1959
to 22 January 1960. Mai-ism was explained, discussed and commented upon in
the World Congress by Revered Sister Duchesse Blanche Ledran, the Grand
Chancellor of the Universal Religious Alliance. Mai-ism received the greatest
approbation in this World Congress of the Universal Religious Alliance, which
has a standing of over five decades. In fact, it is one of the most important
universal religious institutes. As stated in the Preliminary Report
pertaining to the Congress held on 23 October 1959, the complete
attendance at the Congress was around 3800 persons 2184 of which integrated
about 318 different official delegations, which came from 96 different
countries. The representation was of 449 different sections and sub-sections of
religious and various organizations. Furthermore, 43 countries had sent their
official observers. Appreciation and truest understanding about Mai-ism
by the said World Congress would be evident from these words;
" We have received valuable literature from all quarters of
the world, which amply reveals that the regeneration of man is
at hand, as well as that a new age ( Aquarian )is being ushered in taking the
shape of a brand new Spiritual Civilisation. We recommend such sources of
research. We recommend Mai-ism and the Mai Institute of Santa Cruz West,
Bombay - 54, India".
